5/7/08 - Second Annual OHIO CRANKSHAFT NO BOX NATIONALS brought some great racing and sunny skies!

As the weekend approached with promising weather so did the racers! This year the weather was perfect and the racers came flooding in the gates Friday morning to get their perfect pit spot. As they came rolling in one after another, Triple O Promotions knew that this weekend could turn out some great racing!
Time trials on Friday evening began at 5:00 and then the Gamblers race began at 8:00. We had 80 entries into that race and when they were down to a 10 car ladder then the money started to split up. At 5 cars it was Chad Isley, Slick Rick Baehr, Warren Smith, Randy Burwell, and Gary May. At three cars it was Baehr against May and Burwell had the bye into the final. Baehr took the win over May with his perfect reaction time down to the fourth zero. Burwell’s red light in the final gave Slick Rick Baehr the win.
On Saturday morning each racer got two time shots down the track. On the second time trial we ran the “Run For The Drum”. The race was based only on Dial-in not reaction time. The winner received a 54 gallon drum of fuel from VP Racing Fuels and the runner up received a 15 gallon drum. Slick Rick Baehr was on a roll and went dead on with a zero to win the drum of fuel from VP Racing Fuel. Brian Cireddu won the 15 gallon drum of fuel with his dead on with a 3.
With 130 entries, the field was ready to begin the main event race. Everything was running smoothly and the racers were putting down dead on runs with nearly perfect reaction times. At 4 cars Slick Rick Baehr red lighted to send Kevin Bishop into the finals. In a close race Dave Perry took the win over Chad Isley to send Perry into the finals. In the final round Perry’s red light gave Kevin Bishop the win in the finals. Along with a great pay day, Bishop won a brand new Q Series Carburetor from Quick Fuel, a $500 Gift certificate from BTE, $250 gift certificate to Automotion Race Cars, 54 gallon drum of VP Fuels, $50 gift certificate to K-Motion, and $150 gift certificate to Larry Hodge Racing Tires.

During the later rounds of the Main Event on Saturday we began the Olson Paint and Body Little Bucks Race. With over 70 entries and a guaranteed purse the racers were excited to get another chance at some of the money. At three cars it was Chris Walters against Danny Black and Jon Moreno, from Staten Island, New York, had the bye into the finals. Walters break out gave Danny Black the win and sent him into the final round. Black’s .006 light and dead on with a zero gave him the win over Moreno.

Several other racers received prizes throughout the day. Luke Bogacki had the UMDRA bounty hunter on his car and beat Bill Smith to win $50. K & N gave round prizes to Rob Fisher, Larry Harness Jr, and Randy Wolfe. Nitro Plate awarded the “Step Up To The Plate” to Bubba Black for his completely perfect run! Dennis Ridgeway Enterprises awarded the “Hard Luck Award” to Warren Smith. Warren received a free engine diaper for all of his weekend troubles.
On Sunday we had another gorgeous day of racing with more dead on dial-in’s and nearly perfect reaction times! We gave every racer one time shot and during that time shot we ran another closest to dial-in “Run For The Drum”. Special thanks again to VP Fuels for allowing Mike Landheer to take home a 54 gallon drum of fuel with his dead on to the zero dial-in and Jeff Rife for taking the 15 gallon drum.
On Sunday’s Main Event the chase for the big check was in every racers eyes! With 8 racers remaining Slick Rick Baehr was still in with both entries along with Mike McKinney and Marty McKinney, Joe Robertson, Jason Bishop, Chad Vangness, and Gary May. At 4 cars Gary May took the win over Joe Robertson by .002 and Jason Bishop took the win over Baehr. In the final round both May and Bishop were on double breakouts and May ended up taking the victory over Bishop. Along with a great pay day, May won a brand new Q Series Carburetor from Quick Fuel, a $500 Gift certificate from BTE, $250 gift certificate to Automotion Race Cars, 54 gallon drum of VP Fuels, $50 gift certificate to K-Motion, and $150 gift certificate to Larry Hodge Racing Tires.

Along with all of the money that was given out on Sunday several racers won prizes. Clayton Clark won the “Step Up To The Plate” award from Nitro Plate with a .003 winning package! K & N presented round prizes to Luke Bogacki, Jon Maugans, and Aaron McCulla. D & M Automotive presented an overall weekend award to Randy Wolfe with a Free Rhino Bed Liner. Congratulations to all the round winners of the weekend!
Overall, the race was a success and we wanted to thank all the racers and sponsors for their support along with the Bunker Hill staff for their hard work and smooth running program! We look forward to building on our program next year and want to continue to provide an opportunity for No Box Racers in the area to run for a huge amount of money,
